How we named and designed invoi

Discover the story behind Invoi’s name and design, inspired by the belief that business software should be simple, intuitive, and easy to use.
In Vietnam, nobody says "invoice". They say /in•voi/ invoi.
Say both out loud. Invoice ends on a hard sound. Invoi just flows. Nobody decided that. Vietnamese speakers simplified the word on their own.
For them it's simpler, so we kept how people already say it.
The word was simple. The tool for invoicing wasn't. Invoicing lived inside accounting software, built for accountants. So owners never opened it. They never issued an invoice either. In Vietnam, that was always the accountant's job, because owners were afraid of making mistakes. So they asked "Did we invoice them?" and waited.
So the name became our promise: make invoicing simple. Simple enough for the owner to open and issue. And simpler for the accountant too.
That's the blue icon. It represents two people, one screen, the owner and the accountant, working in the same place. It's a simple picture of collaboration. It's also "ii", the first and last letter of invoi.
Invoi is a collaborative tool, and it works both ways. The accountant still issues invoices, downloads them, exports to accounting software. Same work, simpler tool. The owner is now on the same screen. A shared screen gives both sides:
| VISIBILITY | CONTROL | EFFICIENCY |
|---|---|---|
| Owner: Sees every invoice as it's issued. No asking, no waiting. | Owner: Knows what's been sent and to whom, and can issue an invoice without the fear of getting it wrong. | Owner: No waiting on answers. |
| Accountant: No more "did we invoice them?" messages. The owner checks it themselves. | Accountant: No longer the only person who can issue. Simple invoices go out without them, so they can focus on the work that needs them. | Accountant: No chasing the owner for details, no status updates. Both work from the same invoice. |
Simple name. Simple product. One screen. Always.
